In this edition, we give an analysis of the recent English law case Globe Motors Inc v TRW Lucas Varity Electric Steering Limited which deals with whether oral agreements can vary written contracts. In particular, we look at its potential impact for future construction contracts. In our main article this month, we take a look at the GETFiT schemes in Africa for small scale renewable energy projects.
New Joiners/updates
2016 has seen a growth in the firm’s membership, we welcome the following to Trinity:
- Fiona Gulliford a new partner who joins us from the leading French firm Gide Loyrette Nouel;
- Tinashe Makoni, a senior consultant who joins us from Norton Rose Fulbright; and
- Nicolas Boittin, an associate who joins us from Jones Day in Paris. Nicolas is a qualified French lawyer.
We also are pleased to announce Jennifer Gladstone has been made up to partner at Trinity since January of this year and previous senior associates Luke Muchamore and Barry Burland have been promoted to Counsel.
Francophone practice
Due to our recent growth, we are proud to announce a full-service Francophone practice, including a consultant based in Paris with in-depth experience to advise on regulatory and OHADA matters in Francophone jurisdictions. Trinity now has a total of eight French speaking members of the team, with extensive Francophone Africa experience. If interested please ask for a statement of our extensive Francophone capabilities.
Closings
We have closed a number of deals in recent months including acting for a series of European DFIs on a secured term facility to finance the rehabilitation of various plantations in the Democratic Republic of Congo and acting for CDC Group PLC on its investment into the development of hydroelectric power projects in the renowned Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
New instructions
We have had a number of new instructions in recent months, including advising on solar PV projects in Kenya, Zambia, Mali, Tanzania and Chad; the development of a fuel storage terminal in Sierra Leone; the development of a series of emergency IPPs in Ghana; the development of a wind project in Mozambique and the financing of mining equipment in Ghana.
